Turning Shipping Containers into Affordable Housing
Relevant Buildings aims to provide housing options that are modern yet affordable. With that mission in mind, we built the container home condos in St. Helens, Oregon, that features 8 living units. This home was made from sixteen 40-foot long containers. The project was a challenge and had us questioning at times what we had gotten ourselves into, but the results were worth it.
As with all of our container homes, these container home condos include high-quality finishes. We use durable luxury vinyl flooring, stainless steel appliances, and tiled kitchen backsplash.
We didn’t skip on our energy-efficient features either. The appliances in the home are energy-star rated. A highly efficient ductless mini split system heats and cools each home. Next, we installed windows and insulation that exceed energy code requirements. Last but not least, the bones of the building are made from upcycled shipping containers.
Our architect and code consultant for this project, Tom Jaleski, wrote an article that goes into more detail about this project. You can read the full article here on pages 78-82.
